Last night, Sitter Krystin R. enjoyed a birthday dinner with friends at Mori Japanese Steakhouse, which included owner Mary and fellow Sitters Kristyn M. and Lindsey.
Six weeks prior, Krystin's boyfriend of many years, John, had contacted Mary, asking that she give Krystin the week off -- but not tell her. It was her birthday weekend, and he wanted to make it special. Mary happily obliged, and contacted the families for whom Krystin usually cares.
The weekend approached, and the plan became more complex -- Krystin was bummed that John wouldn't be able to travel from Vermont to spend the weekend with her, and asked for extra babysitting! A favorite family "cancelled" the Friday night appointment they had with her, and she wondered why. To help ease the frustration, we put fake babysitting appointments on her calendar for the weekend with a "new family." :)
Friday night shaped into the evening when friends were taking her to Mori Japanese Steakhouse for her birthday dinner. A few minutes after sitting down, who should walk in but John! Kristyn was thrilled to tears, and the meal was wonderful.
After dinner, John doled out a birthday gift to her brother, Kraig (his birthday is a day after hers, but years later...) Then, he handed a box to Krystin. The box was empty, but written at the bottom was, "Go outside."
A black limo awaited outside, and when Krystin opened the door to look inside, a note on the seat read, "Turn around." There was John, on one knee, with an exquisite ring and even more exquisite proposal: "Will you marry me?"
We're SO pleased to congratulate Krystin and John on their engagement. You two are meant to be, and it is so obvious in every way. Congratulations!
